The group will enjoy hands-on activities making historic winter crafts\, such as corn husk dolls\, tin punch ornaments\, and braided wool items. They will also play traditional games like hoop rolling\, marbles\, and relay-style winter chores\, learning how children long ago entertained themselves without screens or electronics. Through creating\, playing\, and exploring together\, students will gain a fun and interactive understanding of winter life in the past.\n\n\nGrades 5-8: Art from Observation\n\nInstructor: Joan Glusiec\nDescription: Campers will spend the day developing their drawing and artistic skills through guided instruction and creative exploration. In the morning\, students will work with pencil\, learning basic techniques such as perspective\, shading\, and drawing objects from life. Using items found around Quiet Valley and simple still-life setups\, campers will practice careful observation and sketching. In the afternoon\, campers will build on their drawings by adding color and experimenting with different art materials\, including tempera paint\, watercolor\, and pastels. Students may create as many or as few artworks as they choose while exploring the medium or mediums that interest them most.
