In this engaging first-person interpretation\, Emma welcomes guests into her home as neighbors\, sharing what it’s like to run a household\, care for livestock\, and support her husband’s work on the land. Married in 1888\, Emma offers a personal glimpse into married life\, community traditions\, and the rhythm of rural living at the end of the 19th century. Through her stories\, visitors experience history not as a list of dates\, but as the living memory of someone who lived it. \nDate: Saturday\, July 22Time: 10:00am – 3:00pmFee: Included with tour admission URL:https://quietvalley.org/event/a-visit-with-emma-marsh/ LOCATION:PA CATEGORIES:Special Events,Summer Highlights Demos ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://quietvalley.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/emma-thumbnail.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20250719T120000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20250719T160000 DTSTAMP:20260225T084152 CREATED:20240429T184034Z LAST-MODIFIED:20250703T212349Z UID:17780-1752926400-1752940800@quietvalley.org SUMMARY:Plein Air Art Show & Auction DESCRIPTION:Join us for our second annual Plein Air/Studio Art On The Farm artists’ reception\, judging\, and silent auction on July 19 2025. \n\nSaturday\, July 19 1pm-4pm\n\n12:00- Awards and Auction Opens\n12:00-4:00- Silent Auction\n4:00- Auction Winners Announced and Art Pieces available for pick up\n\n\n\nFree admission to the art show does not include admission to the farm. Farmer cheese may be made from the milk of cows\, sheep or goats\, with each giving its own texture and flavor. During coagulation the mixture separates into curds (solid) and whey (liquid)\, then the whey is drained off. Further pressing out of the moisture yields the malleable solid results of pot cheese\, while even more pressing makes farmer cheese\, which is solid\, dry and crumbly. Adding herbs\, garlic or other ingredients creates a soft\, flavored spread. It is a food and fiber crop cultivated in cooler regions of the world. The textiles made from flax are known in the Western countries as linen\, and traditionally used for bed sheets\, underclothes\, and table linen. In addition to referring to the plant itself\, the word “flax” may refer to the unspun fibers of the flax plant. Flax fibers are taken from the stem of the plant\, and are two to three times as strong as those of cotton. Additionally\, flax fibers are naturally smooth and straight. Europe and North America depended on flax for vegetable-based cloth until the nineteenth century\, when cotton overtook flax as the most common plant used for clothing and making rag-based paper. Come watch as flax is spun into linen thread and learn more about this amazing fiber. \n\nDate: Tuesday August 6th\nTime: 10:00am – 3:30pm\nFee: Included with tour admission\nInstructor: Sue Oiler & Friends URL:https://quietvalley.org/event/flax-linen-day/ LOCATION:Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm\, 347 Quiet Valley Rd\, Stroudsburg\, PA\, 18360\, United States CATEGORIES:Special Events,Summer Highlights Demos ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://quietvalley.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Untitled-design5.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20240613T100000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20240613T150000 DTSTAMP:20260225T084152 CREATED:20230816T215547Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240618T153326Z UID:17361-1718272800-1718290800@quietvalley.org SUMMARY:1890s Cooking Demonstration DESCRIPTION:Join us as we fire up our 1890s wood cook stove and try out some of Emma’s kitchen gadgets.
