Participants will learn about traditional lighting methods and the role candles played in everyday life while creating their own hand-dipped taper candles. \nThe workshop will cover historic approaches to measuring and preparing wax\, followed by guided instruction in dipping taper candles using methods similar to those practiced in the past. Participants will also learn how to properly finish and care for their candles so they can be safely used at home. \nNo prior experience is necessary. All materials are provided\, and each participant will leave with a set of handmade candles and a deeper understanding of historic household lighting. Participants should bring a lunch. You’ll make the basket pictured above and complete the class by staining your finished basket. Dyed reed can be added to the basket for a festive feel or left plain. The round basket measures 15″ in diameter by 18″ high\, and the oval basket measures 11″x14″x18″: The class begins at 10 am and will finish when you complete your basket. Please pack a lunch.
