Learn the art of traditional broom making from the\u00a0Meckley Family, seventh-generation broom makers preserving a craft that has been in their family for over a century. Using original equipment and time-honored techniques, Meckley Brooms combines functional craftsmanship with whimsical designs\u2014bringing both history and hands-on fun to this workshop.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the\u00a0Poconos Free Art and Craft Workshops Fund, these workshops are\u00a0free and open to the public for participants ages 15 and older, offering a unique opportunity for Monroe County residents to explore historic handcrafts, learn new skills, and take home their own handmade brooms. Space is limited and each participant will only be accepted for one workshop, so an\u00a0advance application is required.<\/p>\n

Broom Making Basics | 10:30 AM\u201312:30 PM
\nParticipants will learn foundational broom-making techniques while creating three small brooms: a cake tester, a pot scrubber, and a whisk broom. Perfect for beginners and those curious about traditional handcrafts.<\/p>\n

Cobweb Broom Workshop | 2:00\u20133:30 PM
\nFocuses on making a classic cobweb broom, ideal for cleaning corners, ceilings, and hard-to-reach spaces. Participants will learn shaping and stitching techniques specific to this distinctive broom style.<\/p>\n
